Eden is a not for profit organisation that works in Myanmar, to give rescued human trafficking victims skills and opportunities which reduce the risks of being re-trafficked. They can rebuild their lives with support and hope.
Eden’s programs are based in South-East Asia, which is a host to more than half of the global total of human trafficking victims.
In 2013 Eden began its programs in Myanmar, a hotbed for human trafficking for years. Political instability, natural disasters and internal ethnic infighting leads to a massive lack of opportunity for its populace.
Poverty and political unrest are at the heart of Myanmar's human trafficking problem, which has only grown more severe. The economic collapse, brought on by the pandemic and political crisis, has exacerbated the level of human trafficking, therefore, there is a need for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other nonprofits like Eden to fill this void and provide essential support to victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Through a relationship-focused and trauma-informed approach to programming, Eden is able to reach high trafficking risk individuals and victims of human trafficking in Yangon, Northern & Eastern Shan state red-light districts. All profits from Eden jewellery sales directly benefit the women at Eden and support the following programs:
- Drop-in centres
- Emergency shelters
- Trauma counseling
- Vocational training
- Economic Empowerment
- Community education
